We currently compete in two leagues with 3 teams;

Team 1

Essex Men’s Div 1.

Having played in Essex Div 1, for some 6 years with no great success, the club decided to drop to the second division for the 2004 / 2005 season and to concentrate on youth development. The younger members of the club, all between 17 & 25 years flourished during this period and won both league and play-off trophies. They will now be competing in the Essex 1st Division aided by some of the club’s older experienced ‘Big Guys’. Whilst much development has yet to be done, we hope to be a major force within this highly competitive league in the very near future.

Teams 2 & 3

Cambridgeshire Men’s Div 1.

Cambs league are currently restructuring in order to promote grass-routes Basketball. This enables us to enter 2 teams, and thus provides competition to all club members.

Team 2 is therefore youth based, predominantly 16 to 25 years, and gives valuable court experience to those who do not attain first – five placements in the Essex league and to those progressing on from school age. This all helps to promote youth development and assures the future success of the club at regional level.

Team 3 is predominantly a recreational team, where vets (over 35’s) and other general club members can compete for fun. Experience is a pre-requisite to offset lack of youth!

Children’s Basketball

Saffron Walden Basketball Club provides training on a Tuesday evening at The Friends School, Peaslands Road, for Children of secondary school age, under the care of their qualified coach Andy Shuttlewood.

Ladies Basketball & Disabled Basketball

The club currently offers no specific competition for ladies or people with disabilities, there has never been the demand! However, the club has often had ladies participating in training nights and during the early 90’s had a first – five playing lady who had previously played for the infamous ‘Avon’ Team! We’d be pleased to hear from anyone wishing to help set up a ‘Ladies Team’ or simply wanting to join in on training nights. Andy’s children’s training on Tuesdays is for both boys and girls and competitions for both are entered at all secondary school ages.
